I remember 2 years ago, I woke up with Bob Fitts’ song – HE WILL COME AND SAVE YOU. That day, He did save me and others on a flight between London and Newark as our plane developed a fault mid air and we had to land in Shannon, Ireland. When the pilot announced that there was a problem, I was at peace because of that song that came through a few hours earlier. It’s easier to have these overflowing songs in your heart if you have filled your ear gates with them in the first place. One of the reason why we have lots of worship songs out today is that these are Spirit breathed tools; tools to invest in ourselves. Tools that when we individually ingest them and then express them corporately, the Lord will be made manifest. With the strange happenings in the world, including the Covid19  pandemic, fearful and perilous times which proved abortive trusts in human intelligence and strength, we are reminded that the name of the Lord only is our hope and refuge from the storms.

The name of the Lord is our shield and buckler.

It’s a captivating take on eternity and intimacy with God, fusing English, Yoruba, Hausa and chants. If there’s one thing Jaymikee is known for, its his fusion of Yoruba, English and chants in his songs. This album is no different from what we’re used to with Jaymikee. The entirety of the album amplifies intimacy with God and instills the consciousness of eternity after life on earth. Jaymikee with calm sounds and simple lyrics conveys this message. However, the simplicity of the lyrics leaves much to be desired. For an album with such preoccupation, one will expect thought and emotion provoking lyrics that will send goose pimples all over your body. The lyrics are words from the Bible; easy to commit to memory (‘behold I stand and knock at the door of your heart’ see track 10) but if merged with the singer’s personal experience and revelation as it relates to each track, would’ve had a ripple effect, thought and emotion provoking effect on the listener. Chissom started singing as early as when she was 8 years old in the children’s choir at her then local church, having been raised by devout Christian parents, Chissom Anthony grew in her Christian faith and also improved as a Singer and developed herself into the amazing person she is today.
